MoreFish part of SFI Seaweed – strengthening Norwegian seaweed research

Published on 19 December 2025 at 11:51

MoreFish AS is proud to be a partner in SFI Seaweed, a new research center that will strengthen Norwegian seaweed research and industry over the next eight years.

We congratulate SINTEF and all partners on being awarded SFI Seaweed by the Research Council of Norway 🌿🌊

MoreFish AS is proud to be part of this strong consortium, which will help advance Norwegian seaweed research and industry over the next eight years. Cultivating seaweed and other macroalgae holds great potential — both as a sustainable biomass and as an important piece of the green transition.

We look forward to working closely with SINTEF, the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), NIVA, and other research and industry partners to explore the entire value chain of Norwegian seaweed cultivation, from biology and technology to applications and commercialization.

Congratulations to project leader Jorunn Skjermo and the entire team — this will be both exciting and important work! 👏

Forsmak - Tackling Off-Flavor in Land-Based Aquaculture

Off-flavor in land-based aquaculture has been a well-known challenge for years. Even the most modern RAS facilities can experience sudden outbreaks of geosmin and MIB–producing bacteria, leading to earthy or muddy flavors in fish. This not only affects product quality but can also introduce serious operational and financial risks. Investments in upgraded water-treatment components, changes in system design, or extended purging routines quickly become costly—especially when the root causes of off-flavor vary between sites and are still not fully understood.
